Article ID 1036
Product Pathways
Issue When you try to run a PLATO Pathways lesson as a learner, the following message displays: "File access denied" "The error type listed in \PWAY\BIN\ERRORLOG.TXT is "EInOutError"."
Cause The CW.BAT file in a learner's individual private folder is corrupt
Resolution Temporary solution: Use the user's ID number and delete the CW.BAT in the learner's private folder

Details

Resolution

  1. Get the user's ID number: Sign on to PLATO Pathways as administrator, go into User Management, then highlight the learner's name in the list of users.
  2. Click the Properties button, then click the System tab. The User ID number is listed under "System Information". Use the number in parentheses (the hexadecimal equivalent of the ID number).
  3. If there is no number in parentheses, you'll need to convert the ID number to hexadecimal manually by following the steps below:

    1. Click on the Start button, then Programs > Accessories > Calculator. The Windows Calculator will start up.
    2. At the top of the Calculator window, click the View pull-down menu. Select the Scientific view.
    3. There are four number systems listed: Hex (hexadecimal), Dec (decimal), Oct (octal), and Bin (binary). Select Dec.
    4. Enter the User ID number you need to convert (such as "483").
    5. Click on Hex. The number you entered will automatically be converted to hexadecimal. (For example, 483 converts to "1E3". ) Remember the hexadecimal number (you may want to write it down).
  4. Using Windows Explorer, My Computer or a DOS prompt, delete the CW.BAT in the learner's private folder where XXX is the learner's hexadecimal user ID number. (For example, delete the CW.BAT file in \PWAY\PRIVATE\1E3).

Individual learner folders in PLATO Pathways versions previous are \PWAY\PRIVATE\XXX, where XXX is the learner's user ID number.
