Editing Assignment Status

There is now an improved process for editing assignment status, which allows you to change the completion and mastery status for one learner or for all learners who have received an assignment.   This includes the process for unlocking a mastery test for a single learner.

The changes include new Edit Status and Edit Status for All Learners buttons, which replace clicking on the status itself (e.g. In Progress), and confirmation prompts to ensure that you do not make status changes accidentally.

Edit Status for a Single Learner:

  1. Locate an assignment either from Find User > View All Assignments or from Classes & Assignments.     The View/Edit Assignment page lists a completion status for each individual learner. Next to that status is a button called Edit Status.

  •
  • Click Edit Status to change the completion and mastery status for the assignment for the individual learner listed.

  • You will see a pop-up confirmation prompt: "You are about to edit the progress data..."   If you selected EDIT STATUS in error, click No to return to the View/Edit Assignment window.   To continue to the Edit Status window, click Yes:

  • Click the dropdown list next to the activity whose status you wish to edit and select a new value for one of the status fields.    For example, change Status from In Progress to Not Started.

Or, to enter or edit a score, enter the new value in the field to the right of the mastery field:

  • You may get a pop-up prompt asking you to confirm removing progress data:

If so, click OK at this prompt if you intend to remove progress data or Cancel to back out of making the change.

  • To unlock a mastery test, change the Completed status of the test to Not Started, then click the "locked icon" to change it to the "unlocked" icon   .

  • After you make the change (and press OK on the "remove progress data" prompt if it appears), the screen will refresh.   Since there may be a delay of several seconds, be sure to wait until the screen refreshes before you click OK in the Edit Status window.   If you click OK before the screen refreshes, your changes may not be saved.

  • After the screen refreshes, make any other needed change and wait for the screen refresh.   When you have made all needed changes, then, after the last screen refresh, click OK.

  • A final confirmation prompt will appear; click No or Yes accordingly:

You will be returned to the View/Edit Assignment screen.

  • Click SAVE at the bottom of the View/Edit Assignment screen.

  • Edit Status for All Learners:

    1. Locate an assignment through Classes & Assignments and select View/Edit Assignment.   There is now an Edit Status for All Learners  button next to the assignment.

    2. Click Edit Status for All Learners to access a single list that allows you to make changes that apply to every learner who has this assignment.

Important Exception:   For some of the learners with the assignment you are editing, one or more activities (courses, units, or modules) in this assignment may also be assigned to them in a different assignment—perhaps an assignment you have made, or one that another teacher has made for that learner.   This is sometimes referred to in the knowledge base as a "duplicate assignment".

If this is the case, then, when you use Edit Status for All Learners in an assignment, any learners who have another assignment that duplicates some or part of the assignment you are editing will not have their status updated in this or any other assignment.

To summarize:   Learners who have any of the content in this assignment assigned elsewhere in the system will  not receive the status changes that are applied to the rest of the class.

Grayed out option:   If EDIT STATUS FOR ALL LEARNERS is grayed out, it means that there are  one or more learners  in classes who have been added to the  assignment.    If they are not on the list you are viewing, it is because you (teacher)  are not a member of the other class(es).    The option is not available because you do not have permission to edit those students' progress data.

    3. Follow the single-user status edit process above:

The process and confirmation prompts for Edit Status for All Learners are similar to those you see for Edit Status for a single user.   For the last confirmation, click SAVE at the bottom of the View/Edit Assignment screen.

    4. For additional information on editing status, view the    View/Edit an Assignment tutorial, which includes the steps for modifying a learner's status.
