What range of IP addresses needs to be open for access to PLE?

Resolution

The system requirements document for PLE states which ports need to be open but does not provide specific IP ranges.

The required address ranges may change occasionally. Therefore, PLATO Learning recommends that you allow access to the URLs listed below. Most routers and firewalls now accommodate URL configuration and will accept this entry.

URL: http://ple.platoweb.com and https://ple.platoweb.com

• 63.241.29.0 - 63.241.29.254
• 63.241.95.144 - 63.241.95.159

Also, make sure that workstations can access these sites:

• *.platoweb.com
• *.platoweb01.com  
• *.adobe.com (for installing browser plug-ins needed to run courseware)
• *.macromedia.com (alternate Adobe domain)
• *.akamai.com (mirror site for Adobe)

You can test this by making sure you can navigate to these sites at the workstation:

http://ple.platoweb.com

http://www.platoweb.com  (needed for access to PLATO Xtras used for running Shockwave lessons)

http://www.platoweb01.com  (access to Xtras)

http://www.adobe.com

http://www.macromedia.com

http://www.akamai.com

Create an exception or "hole" to allow TCP access to *.akamai.com.   Akamai Technologies hosts mirror sites for installing Adobe plug-ins. The IP address is 72.247.242.187.
