Resolution

Possible Cause:

Your firewall or desktop security application may be blocking "HTTP referer", which allows the browser to return to the page it came from.

Workaround:

If you get the "Do you want to close this window?" prompt, select No. Then click the down arrow next to the Back button. Select the link called "PLATO Web Learning Network - Assignments" that is highest (most recent) on the list. That will bring you back to the student menu. No records will be lost.

Permanent solution:

Change the settings on your security application to allow HTTP referers. Some security applications are listed below; contact your network administrator to implement these changes or for help with other applications.

What to do if you are using Norton Internet Security:

Before you run PLATO Courseware, follow these steps:

  1. Open Norton Internet Security.
  2. Select Privacy Control > click Turn Off.
  3. Select Ad Blocking > click Turn Off.
  4. Exit Norton Internet Security.
  5. Try running PLATO Courseware. The message should no longer display.
  6. After you are finished with your session and log out of PLATO Web Learning Network, you can turn Privacy Control and Ad Blocking on in Norton Internet Security.

An optional, alternate solution is to use a supported version of the Netscape browser instead of Internet Explorer.

What to do if you have EZ Firewall:

  2. Under "Privacy", click the Sites tab.

  4. Scroll to the right and right-click the red "X" for both "Web Bugs" and "Private Headers".
  5. Choose options, and then uncheck the selections in the options box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Try running PLATO Courseware. When you are finished and click the link "Click here when your lesson or test is complete," the message should no longer display.
