Resolution

For students or instructors:

You may have mistyped your password.   Alternately, your instructor or administrator may have left the password blank so that you can set it yourself.     To log in successfully:

  1. Verify that you are entering the correct URL (Web address):   http://www.platoweb.com.
  2. Verify that you are typing in your PLATO name, group name, and password correctly. Check the spelling and any spaces or extra characters, remembering that the password is case sensitive.
  3. Make sure the Caps Lock key on your keyboard is not turned on. If you are entering numeric characters, make sure your Num Lock key is turned on.
  4. Verify that you are using the correct account number.     To make sure you are using the correct account number, click "If this is not your account, click here" and re-enter your account number.
  5. If you are logging in for the first time and you were not given a password, leave the password field blank and click Send. The next screen will prompt you to choose a password.
  6. If you are entering the login information as given by your PLATO Administrator or instructor and the message continues to display, contact your PLATO Administrator or instructor, who can verify that you are entering the correct PLATO name and can clear your password if needed. After your password is cleared, leave the password field blank when you try to log in. The next screen will prompt you to choose a new password.

For administrators:

  1. Verify that the student or instructor is entering the correct PLATO name.   Reset the password if necessary:

    • To clear a user's password and have the user create a password the next time the user logs in, locate and select the user in Group Tools or Class Tools, then select Clear This User's Password.
    • To change a user's password to a password you select, locate and select the user in Group Tools or Class Tools, then select (change this information), then enter a new password in the Password and Retype Password fields.

  2. Check group tools to see if there are two groups with the same name; if so, rename one of them.
  3. If you are getting the message when you try to log in as an administrator, contact another administrator to clear your password.   If none is available, contact PLATO Support Services at 800.869.2200 or http://support.plato.com/email.
