Resolution Run User Database Repair Utility, WCMIUDBR.EXE

Details

Resolution

Run the User Database Repair Utility, WCMIUDBR.EXE, located in the BIN folder:

CAUTION: You should not run the User Repair Utility routinely. You should only need to run the utility when there are problems with one or more user's \PRIVDB tables; for example, one or more \PRIVDB tables for a user are reported as missing or corrupt for some reason. Keep in mind that if you use the utility's feature to repopulate tables, you can only restore data up to the last time a report consolidation was run. If it has been two weeks since you consolidated reports, you may lose data that has been collected since then.

How to run the USER REPAIR UTILITY (WCMIUDBR.EXE)

  1. First, search for and remove lock files:

    1. Make sure you have administrator privileges to the workstation and server before you attempt to delete lock files.
    2. Have all users completely exit PLATO Pathways (all users must exit from the PLATO Pathways signon screen).
    3. Make sure all users have also logged off the network. (Lock files are in use and you will not be able to delete them if users are still on the system.)
    4. Open the \PWAY\BIN folder.
    5. Double-click LOCKCLR.EXE.
  2. At a workstation that is set up to run PLATO Pathways, use My Computer to go to the drive where Pathways is installed.
  3. Open the \PWAY\BIN folder, then click WCMIUDBR.EXE.
  4. Choose the options you want to use when the utility runs.

To select various individual user names or ID numbers, hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the user name with your mouse.

Unlike the Database Repair Utility, the WCMIUDBR.EXE utility CAN be run when other users are signed on to the system and working in Pathways. However, the individual user for the table you wish to repair must be signed OFF the system.

  5. After you have selected the user names you wish to repair, click Start.
  6. After the utility has finished, it displays a message reporting whether or not any problems were detected.

If problems are detected, the details will be written to the WCMIUDBR.LOG, located in the \PWAY\INSTLOG directory. The WCMIUDBR.LOG reports which files or tables the utility attempted to repair, and whether or not the repair was successful.
