Run LOCKCLR and the Database Repair Utility, WCMIDBRU.EXE |
Details
Resolution
Run the LOCKCLR utility and Database Repair Utility (WCMIDBRU.EXE), located in the \PWAY\BIN folder.
NOTE: The repair utility may take 30 minutes to a few hours or longer to run, depending on how many student records you have, the size of your network, and when you last ran the utility.
How to run the Database Repair Utility (WCMIDBRU.EXE)
- Make sure all users have signed out of PLATO Pathways and have exited from the PLATO Pathways signon screen.
-
Search for and remove lock files:
- Make sure you have administrator privileges to the workstation and server before you attempt to delete lock files.
- Have all users completely exit PLATO Pathways (all users must exit from the PLATO Pathways signon screen to the Windows desktop).
- Make sure all users have also logged off the network. (Lock files are in use and you will not be able to delete them if users are still on the system.)
- Open the \PWAY\BIN folder.
- Double-click LOCKCLR.EXE.
- Restart the workstation after lock files have been deleted.
- At a workstation that is set up to run PLATO Pathways, use My Computer to go to the drive PLATO Pathways is installed on. If some workstations are faster than others, choose a faster workstation.
- Open the \PWAY\BIN folder, then double-click WCMIDBRU.EXE.
- Click Start.
The repair utility starts running.
CAUTION: The progress bar for the repair utility may remain at 0% for several minutes as it prepares to scan files. This is normal. The progress bar will also appear to stop completely when the utility scans large tables. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE UTILITY HAS HUNG, or is having a problem.
DO NOT PRESS CTRL + ALT + DELETE to end the task once you have started the utility! If you do, you will receive an erroneous Windows message saying the program has stopped responding. The program has *not* stopped responding. If you end the task or quit the repair utility while it is running, your database tables may become corrupted beyond repair. Wait until the repair utility finishes normally.
When the repair utility has finished, the following message displays:
The Database Repair Utility has finished checking your system
What to do after the Repair Utility has finished
The repair utility reports if any errors were found and repaired. To see detailed results, click Details > View Detailed Log.
If the repair utility was unable to fix a problem with a file, it reports that the file was damaged or missing and that it needs to be replaced with a backup copy or copied from the PLATO Pathways CD-ROM.
If you do not understand what the missing or damaged file is or what it does, do not try to copy it from the PLATO Pathways CD over to your system to resolve the problem. Please report the error to PLATO Support Services first. A PLATO Support analyst will recommend an appropriate solution.

If you are running PLATO Pathways on a network and the repair utility finds errors, particularly in tables in the DB\USER or DB\ACTIVITY folders, then, do one of the following after you exit the utility:
- Sign on to PLATO Pathways as an administrator and go to System Management > Maintenance > Update Workstations.
- From Windows, go to your PLATO Pathways drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer and run \PWAY\BIN\WHBLDR.EXE.
Either of these procedures will update the files in the warehouse, which is in one of the folders in \PWAY\DB\WH01, WH02, etc. This will allow the repaired tables to be copied to the local workstation database folders the next time the workstations start PLATO Pathways.
