Resolution

When you install PLATO Focus reading, you can choose a minimum install or a full install.   Here is an overview of each option:

PLATO Focus Reading:   Minimal Install Option

A minimum install installs the program application, FOCUS, and a sample student database to a folder on a standalone workstation. The CD must be in the drive in order to run PLATO Focus. Choose the minimum install if you want to run PLATO Focus to run on a standalone installation from the CD-ROM.

Windows: PLATO Focus Reading is installed in Program Files\PLATO\FOCUS Reading.   It also installs a shortcut in the Start Menu.   Look for PLATO > Shortcut to FOCUS.EXE.

Macintosh: PLATO Focus Reading is installed in the Applications folder in FOCUS Reading.   It also installs a shortcut on the desktop.

PLATO Focus Reading:   Full Install Option

A full install installs the program application, PLATO Focus, a sample student database, and the entire contents of program data to a folder on the file server on your network. A CD is not required to run the program after it is installed, and all PLATO Focus data is installed on the hard drive. Choose the full install if you want to install PLATO Focus on a network.

Windows: PLATO Focus Reading is installed in Program Files\PLATO\FOCUS Reading. It also installs a shortcut in the Start Menu. Look for PLATO > Shortcut to FOCUS.EXE

Macintosh: PLATO Focus Reading is installed in the Applications folder in FOCUS Reading. It also installs a shortcut on the desktop.

Installation Overview

The PLATO Focus Reading and Language Program installs the following three components:

  1. The FOCUS program (the application program): FOCUS.exe (Win) or FOCUS (Mac)

  2. FOCUS data: The program data can be installed on the computer or kept on the CD in the computer where the application is running.

  3. FOCUS Teacher and the administrative database:
This holds student records and saves each student's progress.

When you install the FOCUS Teacher program, the teacher application and a sample student database is installed in a "Focus Reading" folder on your workstation at a location that you specify.

If you install FOCUS Teacher in a different location that will be accessed over a network, each copy of PLATO Focus Reading will need to be configured in Program Settings. In Program Settings, you can set the destination path for the FOCUS Teacher database.
